The Museum of Cinema commemorates the 20th anniversary of Joaquim Jordà's death with a new exhibition.

The exhibition, Joaquim Jordà Through the Looking Glass, explores the career of one of the most influential figures in Catalan cinema.

From June 18 to April 11, 2027, the exhibition Joaquim Jordà Through the Looking Glass can be visited at the Museum of Cinema. The exhibition showcases Jordà's multifaceted career as a filmmaker, screenwriter, intellectual, translator, and university professor.

Throughout the exhibition, the motif of the mirror is used as a metaphor for identity, simulation, and the boundaries between reality and fiction. Through a journey spanning from Patata en patata (1959) to Més enllà del mirall (Beyond the Looking Glass) (2006), his filmography employs reflections, doubles, and fictional devices to deeply question how the world is represented.

The exhibited material comes from the filmmaker's personal archive and documentary collection. Joaquim Jordà, born in Santa Coloma de Farners, bequeathed this valuable heritage to his hometown in his will. The City Council of Santa Coloma de Farners owns the collection, and the materials are preserved at the Comarcal Archive of La Selva. The collection, consisting of an extensive documentary and bibliographical legacy mostly dating from the late 1970s to 2006, is an essential resource for understanding his multifaceted activity as a filmmaker and screenwriter, university professor, and translator.

The exhibition combines this documentary collection with a selection of historical cameras on loan from the Museum of Cinema and two audiovisual pieces, also edited by curator Cristina Rubio, featuring excerpts from eleven of Jordà's films. The materials come from the Filmoteca de Catalunya, the Filmoteca Española, and the Fondazione Archivio Audiovisivo del Movimento Operaio e Democratico (AAMOD). Visitors can also watch Martí Rom's documentary Joaquim Jordà and..., in which Jordà speaks with José Luis Guerín, Llorenç Soler, and Esteve Riambau about the nature of cinema, the boundaries between documentary and fiction, political activism, and the Barcelona School-a conversation that serves as a self-portrait.

The project is curated by journalist, lecturer, and documentary film specialist Cristina Rubio. Rubio also holds a PhD in Communication with the thesis Beyond the Looking Glass: Devices of Dissidence in the Work of Joaquim Jordà, which was awarded the Extraordinary Doctorate Prize. She has developed a film project about the filmmaker within the Screenplay Residency of the Catalan Film Academy and previously curated the exhibition The Jordà Archive: The Filmmaker's Documentary Collection at the Comarcal Archive of La Selva.

The exhibition is produced by the Museum of Cinema and coordinated by Jordi Pons and Jordi Dorca, the latter also responsible for communications and audiovisual rights management. The project features design by Cristina Masferrer and exhibition staging by Rafel d'Arquer. Documentation and conservation work has been carried out by Joaquim Carreras and Joaquim Puigdemont from the Comarcal Archive of La Selva, and by Montse Puigdevall from the Museum of Cinema.

Admission is free. During the summer season (July 1 to August 31), the venue is open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm, and Sundays from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. During the winter season (September 1 until closing in April), hours are Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, with Sunday opening hours remaining 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
