The Cinema Museum in Girona goes solar with rooftop installation

Tuesday, September 16, 2025

The Cinema Museum in Girona has completed the installation of 97 photovoltaic solar panels on the rooftop of its building. The project, with a total investment of €41,766, is expected to supply 65% of the museum’s electricity needs through self-consumption and surplus compensation, while avoiding the emission of 15.3 tons of CO₂ annually.

This initiative forms part of the Museum’s Strategic Plan 2024–2027, under the line dedicated to improving sustainability and energy efficiency. The executive project was developed by SUNO Energy Services Engineering, and the installation was carried out by WATTS AT HOME ENERGIA, S.L.. Funding was provided jointly by the Government of Catalonia, which covered 50% of the cost, and the Girona City Council.

Beyond reducing energy costs, the project strengthens the museum’s commitment to sustainability. Solar energy, as a clean and renewable source, not only lowers the institution’s carbon footprint but also positions the Cinema Museum as a cultural landmark actively engaged in environmental responsibility.
