The new interactive screen explain the operation of a cinema projector from 1904

With the aim of creating a more modern, updated, playful and educational permanent exhibition, the Museum of Cnema has just added a new interactive screen to its permanent exhibition to explain the operation of a cinema projector from 1904. Specifically this is the Warwick Bioscope 35mm projector, from the London-based company The Warwick Trading Co. Ltd., which the Museum of Cinema exhibits in the scope of the permanent exhibition entitled "The tools of cinema". By interacting with the screen, the visitor will be able to select 6 of the main parts of the projector (flashlight, coils and film, gears, lens, handle and shutter) and see and understand what function each of them had.

The mechanical film projection system invented by the Lumière brothers in 1895 remained in its basic parts unchanged for more than 100 years. The emergence of new digital technologies made this projection system completely obsolete and today the younger generations are completely unaware of the technical system that allowed the projection of moving images, that is to say cinema, before the digital revolution. The interactive screen that the Museum of Cinema has installed in the permanent exhibition aims to explain in a simple and basic way how cinema projectors of the 20th century worked.

This project is the result of the collaboration between the Cinema Museum and the CIFOG School in Girona. Under the direction and creative coordination of John Revell, this project has been developed from a joint research and has had the participation of students and teachers in all its phases. Thanks to this team work, it has been possible to explore new ways of creating and developing interactive content with an educational and innovative vision.

This action is in line with the Strategic Plan of the Cinema Museum 2024-2027 to improve the quality of the visit and the experience of visitors to the permanent exhibition with the updating of the systems and exhibition elements and the incorporation of interactive elements taking advantage of new digital technologies.
