The Century of Cinema I
From September 1 to October 15, 1998 – Museu del Cinema
The Museum of Cinema is recreating in Girona a space that has been fixed in the emotive memory of those who visited the exhibition The Century of Cinema, organized by the Centre de Cultura Contemporānia de Barcelona in October 1995. In this space the harmonious fusion of film music, sounds, voices and silence takes place. Robert Bresson remarked that "sound films have invented silence". Dialogues are also part of this musical universe. The word achieves all its dignity in those moments when a sentence transcends its purely narrative nature to become the sign of an attitude.
The great film music composers have provided some of the most characteristic and popular tunes of the century, which we can follow through their generic evolution. So we can hear, and see, the following episodes: Westerns, historical dramas, thrillers, comedies, modern musicals, melodramas, cartoons, fantasy films, classic musicals, adventure films and social films.
