A Gironan in Hollywood

From Girona to Cuba, where he studied music, and from there to the USA, where he found success, Xavier Cugat was a man who lived life to the full. He popularized Latin music, playing at the best venues in America with his orchestra. In the world of the cinema, he starred in some of the most outstanding musicals of the 1940s, especially those of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. In Hollywood he was an outstanding figure of the star system of the day. Rita Hayworth, Fred Astaire, Frank Sinatra, Lana Turner, Ginger Rogers ... friends of his that he portrayed with his pen. Five marriages and an intense love life. His epitaph sums it up to perfection: "Cugat, who lived".
To mark the centenary of his birth, the Museum of Cinema wishes to remember the figure of Xavier Cugat with an exhibition of photographs from the Luis Gasca Collection and various audio-visuals, which allow us to recall some of the most significant moments in the life of this universal Gironan.
