When Ava Gardner Seduced Girona

To mark the 50th anniversary of the premiere of Albert Lewin's Pandora and the Flying Dutchman, the Museum of Cinema is organizing an exhibition that is a tribute to and a recollection of this adventure film. In the spring of 1950 the presence for the first time of some of the most brilliant Hollywood stars, like Ava Gardner or James Mason, in the Girona area, and in Tossa de Mar especially, to film scenes for this movie made a strong impact on the local people. When the film was shown all over the world it publicized the charms of the Costa Brava, up to then still virtually unknown to foreign tourists.
The show presents photographs of the filming and of the big stars' stay in this region. The images, most of them loaned by private individuals, show us how things were in those days. We can also see in this exhibition graphic and audio-visual testimonies that include images and the opinions of those who experienced the filming, still remembered here today.
