Shadow theatre: the first cinema

Activity to learn about and discover the world of shadows through shadow theatre representation.

This proposal aims to introduce young children to the magical and fascinating world of shadows through shadow theatre. During the visit to the museum, in the shadow space, the children will discover the characteristics of these performances, considered the oldest precursor of cinema.

The visit is complemented with a practical part where the children will experiment, while playing, with some concepts related to shadows: light, opacity, translucent shadows... as well as the expressive capabilities of the shadows created by our body or a puppet. Finally, the younger students will create a shadow figure. The practical part for the older students consists of performing a shadow theatre show: Karagoz.

Objectives:
- Learn about the technique of shadow theatre performances.
- Use the body as a means of expression.
- Present oneself spontaneously in front of others.

- Recognize specific shapes through shadows.
- Understand the relationship between shadow performances and cinema.
