The British Mutoscope & Biograph Co. bought the rights to the kinora in Britain in 1898. From its launch on the market in 1902, it became a very popular device in the United Kingdom for watching small films in the privacy of the home. Twelve different models of kinoras were created and they came to have a catalogue of more than six hundred titles of reel films. The British Mutoscope & Biograph Co. built a studio in London in 1900 to film movies for kinoras and mutoscopes. In May 1907 the president of The British Mutoscope & Biograph Co., W.T. Smedley, set up Kinora Limited in London. This new company introduced the first kinora camera for amateurs to the market, in 1908. By 1914, when the company's London factory burned down, public interest in kinora had already waned due to the rise of cinema, which was a greater attraction for viewers. The company did not rebuild the burnt-out factory.
