Tachyscope

Manufacturer Ottomar Anschütz
Name Tachyscope
Place Germany
Date circa 1891
Register 966

The purpose of the tachyscope was to recompose the movement of a chronophotography using the zoetrope system, but replacing the drawings with the frames of the chronophotography. This device was derived from the electrotachyscope, invented in 1886-1887 by Anschütz himself, and which also consisted of producing the illusion of movement in a photograph, by combining transparent still images placed on a rotating wheel, which were backlit. The electrotachyscope was a large device, only suitable for public demonstrations. From 1887, Anschütz also developed four types of schnellseher or tachyscope, which were versions for domestic use of the effect produced by the electrotachyscope. Each of these devices included various strips with different and interchangeable images. The model of the photograph was marketed by O. Anschütz from 1891.
