Another type of phenakistoscope was this one with a double disk, which dispensed with the use of the mirror to observe the images. The two disks, attached to the same axis, rotate in the same direction and speed. This phenakistoscope was produced by the Journal des Demoiselles, a Parisian magazine aimed at girls aged fourteen to eighteen from affluent backgrounds, and dedicated to literature, fashion, theatre, and also science.
