Launched on the market in 1888, it is the first photographic camera that used a roll of celluloid, instead of glass plates, as a medium for the images. The flexible celluloid film allowed one hundred photographic exposures to be made. Once they were used up, the user had the option of sending the camera to the manufacturing company, Eastman Kodak, which returned it to the customer with a new celluloid film, together with the negatives of the previous photographs. The Kodak no.1 contributed to making photography easier for non-professional users thanks to its good design, easy operation and low price. The billboard slogan that read: "You press the button, we take care of the rest". This camera is also important in the history of cinema, as the celluloid used inspired E.J. Marey to use it in his chronophotographic camera, replacing the glass plates, and in this way make the first films on celluloid films.
