Desktop viewer for stereoscopic photographs, with three pairs of interchangeable lenses, adjustable in height, as well as the distance between the lenses and the photograph. It has openings at the top and back of the viewer to adjust the incidence of light on the photograph to create the day/night visual effect of the image. This is a luxury device manufactured by the prestigious London company Negretti & Zambra, which also specialised in the manufacture and sale of all kinds of photographic, meteorological, optical and scientific devices. This company, founded in 1850, advertised itself as suppliers by royal appointment for Her Majesty Queen Victoria, Prince Albert and King Edward VII, the Royal Observatory and the British Admiralty. Between 1855 and 1857 they sponsored photographic expeditions to Egypt, Nubia and Ethiopia, and also to China, Japan, the Philippines and Siam. The hundreds of stereoscopic photographs taken by the expeditioners were published and sold with great success.
