Travel camera for 24 x 18 cm plates. Since the early days of photography, several attempts have been made to reduce the bulk and weight of cameras and make them more portable. The solution was provided by the use of a folding leather bellows (soufflet, in French) as a support for the lens, which made it possible to reduce the dimensions of the device when it was folded. This type of camera had its heyday between the 1840s and 1880s approximately, although they were manufactured until 1930. The lens of this camera is of the brand Vda. de F. Rus of Barcelona, a photography products establishment that had specialised in this business since 1887 under the name Casa especial en artículos para la fotografia de Fernando Rus. In 1891 he published a catalogue of his products for sale, where you can see the large number of devices and photographic material of all kinds that Rus offered for sale in his Barcelona premises.
