Kaleidoscope of golden brass on wooden foot, which mimics the shape of the New Patent Jewel Kaleidoscope kaleidoscopes, marketed by the London Stereoscopic Company from 1854. Invented by the Englishman Sir David Brewster in 1819, the kaleidoscope was one of the most popular optical toys of the 19th century. It consisted of a tube inside which you could observe, through a hole located at one of its ends, small objects (usually coloured crystals) reflected by two mirrors placed at an angle inside the tube. By turning the tube, countless shapes and mixtures of colours were observed. .
