In the 19h century, using new methods of mechanical printing, a large number of anamorphoses aimed at a wide audience were published. Around 1800, the Nuremberg engraver Johann Michael Burucker brought onto the market anamorphic drawings specially designed to be viewed through conical mirrors. They are hand-printed and coloured drawings. The one in the photograph is part of a series of six anamorphic drawings.
