Paper peep show

Manufacturer Faisandier
Title "Te deum chanté a Notre Dame le 1er janvier 1852"
Place France
Date 1852
Register 01137

This object consists of seven colour and die-cut lithographs, mounted one after another vertically and supported on either side by two strips of accordion-shaped folding paper. In the centre of the front there is a hole and the image of Emperor Napoleon III on horseback in front of Notre Dame Cathedral, in Paris. The seven images in the lithographs are complementary, since they correspond to the different depth planes of the same image. Looking at the lithographs through the hole in the front, one can see the interior of Notre-Dame Cathedral during the religious ceremony of the Te Deum, with a clear sense of depth of image.
