Magic lantern for domestic use with phonograph. The aim of this device was to incorporate sound to the projected images. Based on the attempts in 1903 of the Gaumont company to synchronise a film projector with a gramophone, Lapierre, a French company that made magic lanterns for domestic use, marketed a model that sought to synchronise the sound of a phonograph with the images projected by a magic lantern. The cylinders with the sound for the phonograph were manufactured expressly to accompany the images of the lantern, which was a luxurious model, the Lanterne chinoise, Chinese in its shape and decorations.
