Magic lantern. Episcope

Manufacturer Jean Schoenner
Lloc Nuremberg (Alemanya)
Date ca. 1890
Register 03277

Device manufactured by the German company of toys and magic lanterns Jean Schoenner, founded in 1875. It has two backgrounds of light inside, and a delicate outer decoration depicting the British coat of arms on the front and the portrait of two unidentified girls on the sides. An episcope is an optical device for projecting opaque flat images, such as postcards, engravings, photographs, pages of books, but also three-dimensional objects such as coins, insects, etc. The object to be projected was usually placed upside down inside the device, since the image was inverted by the projection lens. Intense light, often from two sources, illuminated the object on the sides. Part of the reflected light passed through the projection lens, which projected the image onto the screen.
