Glass slides for magic lantern to create the chained merging effect of images or dissolving views, that is, the gradual transition of projection from one image to another using the magic lantern. Among the typical examples we find landscapes that were transformed from day to night, or from summer to winter. The effect was achieved by superimposing on the screen the images projected by two lanterns (or with a double-lens lantern) and adjusting the intensity of the light of each of them. This effect is very similar to that of optical boxes with translucent views or the spectacle of the diorama. It appears that the pioneer of phantasmagoria Paul Philidor was its inventor in the early nineteenth century, although there is no conclusive evidence. Another possible inventor is the painter and lantern-maker Henry Langdon Childe, who is believed to have worked for Philidor. However, it was from the 1820s when dissolving views began to appear in public magic lantern projections.
