Glass slide for a magic lantern with static image. Typically, black paint was used as a background to block all superfluous light, so that the projected figures were clear and sharp and the only bright spot on the screen. The subjects were very diverse, from the most serious, such as death or religious aspects, to comical stories, through historical, informative accounts or images of distant places or curious characters.
