This is one of the most popular models of magic lantern produced by Lapierre. It has the same design as a small rectangular lantern produced by Louis Aubert, the other great French lantern manufacturer. It is a brass lantern, uncoloured, decorated with geometric drawings and stars manually stamped on the sides of the device. Lapierre's lanterns were not as well finished and decorated as Aubert's; they were cheaper and, as a result, sold more. This type of lantern for domestic use was manufactured for several decades. The first date from 1845 and were sold until the 1890s. Up to nine different sizes of this same model were sold and marketed.
