Twin lens magic lantern for professional use and double adjustable lighting system, also called "biunial". The combination of the two lantern projection systems allowed the creation of the effect called "chained" or dissolving views, since the two lenses point to the same framing on the screen and the images overlap. For example, two images of the same landscape, but one of summer and the other of winter, are placed one on the upper lens and the other on the bottom of the lantern. By adjusting the intensity of the two gas lamps inside the lantern, decreasing the intensity of one and increasing the other, the image of the screen could be gradually changed, transforming the same landscape from summer to winter and vice versa. This type of twin-lens lantern, with optics and high-quality light sources, appeared in London from 1855-1857, and were manufactured with three lenses (called "triunial"). With the biunials and triunials, the highest level of quality of materials and technical sophistication in the manufacture of magic lanterns was achieved, which allowed projections to be made with a high degree of elaboration and narrative complexity. W. Butcher & Son was a major manufacturer of magic lanterns, which began their business in London in 1866 supplying photographic material and equipment.
