Saderra Family Collection

Francesc Saderra Puigferrer (Sant Feliu de Pallerols, 1891 - Banyoles, 1951), brother of the sardana composers Josep and Manuel, began working as a film exhibitor in Besalú in 1935 at the Cine Comtal, which later became the Cine Besalú. From that year on he managed several cinemas in the area, some of them until his death: Castellfollit de la Roca (1936-1950, Cine Catala, Catalunya, Castellfollit), Tortellà (1936-1950, the Casino), Sant Jaume de Llierca (1935-36, 1944-45, 1946-1947, the Casal Català) Esponellà (1949-1951) and Serinyà (1950-1951)
His son, Josep Saderra Privat (Sant Llorenç de Cerdans 1920 - Banyoles, 2000), worked in the family business and later worked as the projectionist in cinemas in Banyoles, which he combined with his job as a clerk for Banyoles Council.

The donation of documentary materials by the Saderra family comprises:
- 25 film distributors' catalogues, from Paramount, Radio Films, United Artists, Warner Bros, MGM, Rey Soria Films, Mercurio, Chamartín, Filmófono, Exclusivas Arajol, Cicosa and Fox.
- 149 Press-books. Titles include Shadow Of A Doubt, How Green Was My Valley, Laura, ‘G' Men, Shanghai Express, The Wages Of Fear, Joan Of Arc, Stagecoach, Gone With The Wind, Bathing Beauty, and The Philadelphia Story.
- 102 collections of film stills (12-19 photos per collection). Titles include After The Sunset, Captains Courageous, The Wizard Of Oz, A Tale Of Two Cities, Two-faced Woman, The Marx Brothers Go West, Tarzan In New York and The Shop Around the Corner.
- 99 film programmes.
- 19 miscellaneous documents related to running the cinemas managed by the Saderra family between 1933 and 1953.
