Presentation of the book The Era of the Pioneers. 50 Key Works of Silent Cinema by Guillermo Triguero Moreno, published by UOC Publishing as part of the Essential Filmographies collection.
The silent era is one of the most fascinating periods in the history of cinema. It was a time of freedom and experimentation, when the great pioneers explored the expressive possibilities of a then-new artistic form. This book offers a journey through that era via the key titles of silent cinema, allowing us to discover the great auteurs and the trends of those years. It includes both emblematic films and lesser-known titles waiting to be rediscovered—all of which laid the foundations for the cinema that followed. Through quotations and allusions, these films pay tribute to the cinematic legacy they inherited. And they remind us that few experiences are as powerful and inspiring as that of a viewer surrendering to the screen to partake in other worlds and other lives.
Guillermo Triguero holds a degree in Audiovisual Communication and a Master's in Contemporary Film Studies. He is the author of the film review blog El gabinete del doctor Mabuse (created in 2009) and the silent cinema blog El testamento del doctor Caligari (created in 2013).
